.22LR

Not as pretty as I WANTED to be sitting... but bordering on "comfortable" for now.
Just so long as I only use .22 for teaching and none for plinking (for *myself*). It should get me through July if I only use 1k a month. I don't know what I'll do after that, since I got wind that .22LR will be scarce into 2015. I hope the company reps are wrong... but I really don't know.

Public Service Announcement (and a personal request)

When shopping at your local purveyor of firearms, feel free to browse as long as you like.
Feel free to take products off the shelves to compare one to another...if you don't want either, feel free to bring them to the counter and the staff will re-shelve them for your convenience.
Feel free to handle as many firearms as you feel like. We know "fit" is a big part of the purchasing decision.
Feel free to ask many questions or engage in conversation about dang near anything.
HOWEVER... Please do NOT lean over the counter to sniff the employees. Really... it's just bad form. Don't do it.

Creepy Guy.

A man in his mid-twenties came into the shop tonight. He did very strange things and made extremely ominous comments...
My co-worker, another customer, and I ALL thought the guy was looking for a way to surreptitiously load a store gun and start firing at anyone/everyone. First time I have ever felt unsafe to that extent there. My heart was racing, I was borderline nauseous and sweating...because if the situation escalated, I knew what was going to happen...and I knew being the only one there carrying, I would be the one to stop it.
I'm so glad it didn't.

Deja Vu

That feeling that "I've done this exact thing before in this exact way"... everybody gets it. You know, even if you've switched off a light or opened a door a zillion times, there's that one odd time that you'll have that "I've done this before" feeling.
Happened to me just a little bit ago...with one weird difference.
It wasn't just a feeling like I'd done something before. This time, I actually remembered dreaming it. YEARS ago. Like...two houses ago. I remember waking up from a dream of doing the exact same deja vu thing in *this* house. I remember thinking, "yeah, right...I'd never have that kind of furniture and all those Indian knick knacks."
I'm telling you...I had that odd deja vu feeling and looked up from what I was doing...straight at all my Indian knick knacks.
I feel really ooky.

FEDS n' stuff

It occurred to me that I've been chatting up the FBI, schmoozing with BATFE and shootin' with cops on my day off.
People are gonna get the wrong idea...

Glock Go Boom!

This crossed my path yesterday...the fabled "Blown up Glock"...not so fabled anymore.
Luckily, the shooter kept all his digits. Not sure what caused it, as the word "reload" was never mentioned.
Good luck finding the trigger and slide stop...

Lord of the flies (and bees and rats...)

Freaky. There's no other word for it.

Apparently, Obama attracts insects and rodents like no other.
Bees swarm him. Flies are swarming him. And don't forget the rats he attracts (not just the politician types).
He's some kind of Pied Piper of pestilence or something...and I fricken love it.
Hey. It's entertainment, OK? It keeps boredom away.

Anyhow...here's the "pics or it never happened" drill:

The rat that ran to the podium and stayed there crisscrossing a few times:

Bees swarming when he was leaving to play some ball instead of doing the church thing;

And the fly that kept circling his head and landing on his face:

Word from the White House is that the place is thoroughly infested and it's irritating the crap out of all the people working there. Obama has been chasing after flies with his briefing papers to swat them.
Guess he's given up on the bare hand trick from last year...

Gun Dreams

Usually, my firearm dreams incorporate me not being able to make my firearm function. In the last dream I had awhile back that I remember, the trigger guard was completely enclosed and solid.

One quite some time back had my carry piece ending up being made out of sponge or something.

I've read that having dreams like that is your subconscious telling you that you don't feel confident in your skill or comfortable with what you're carrying. I don't know if that's true or not, but I can tell you my own experience...
I HAVE been getting to the range more frequently, lately. I've been trying to make it at least once a weekend and I had a gun dream last night.

I was sitting on a patio or deck and reading a news article about some guy in ICU waiting for skin grafts from being super-glued to something as a prank. These two really tall punk teenage boys came out of some building or house and they were laughing and high fiving each other and I realized they were laughing about the guy in the hospital because they were the ones who put him there.

Then one pulled out this giant tube that looked like a toothpaste tube, but it was super glue. They started putting it on EVERYthing around and I felt some hit my arm...then over a fence, I saw a group of kids from my daughter's band walking up a path and those two punk kids started scheming to grab my daughter and super glue her to a wrought iron chaise lounge (like a beach chair).
I threw the newspaper down and yelled, "Like hell you will!!" and that's the first time they noticed me.

One sort of hung back a ways, but was yelling at me calling me names and the other one with the glue was coming at me and saying he was going to glue my eyes open and my mouth and nose shut so I'd "watch myself suffocate"...but not before watching them hurt my girl.

I kneed him in the crotch and before he had dropped all the way to his knees in front of me, I had my pistol drawn, safety off, and put a bullet in his forehead.

Never ever - EVER - had a dream like that before. I woke up feeling like I just ran ten miles full speed and was on the verge of a heart attack or something...covered in sweat and pissed off. I must have been gritting my teeth the whole time because they (and my jaw) hurt too.

TICKED!!

Background:
We have a couple of different family members who are each having July weddings.
Instead of buying a gift, we bought each of them a Visa card that can be used anywhere like a regular credit/debit card (vs a WalMart card that can be used only at WalMart).
I can't activate it...or more like I won't. It cost me fifty-six bucks each to buy the cards and load $50 on each... but when I called the 800 number (and also tried the online activation) they expect me to give them all sorts of information that I'm not willing to do! Like my fricken social security number!! I kid you NOT.
It's like buying flowers for someone and being required to write down your SSN on the card before sending them or giving them! What is up with THAT??
Don't believe it? Here's the screen shot (note that I only got from page one - entering the number on the card and the activation number on my receipt...to page two where I would not give any of that private information!)
There are FIVE pages of personal questions in total!
WTF?!!?? (click to make the pic bigger)

TSA Thugs

Hands of Blue Installment Two:

I took my mom to the airport this morning and since we had to get her checked in two hours early, it left us quite a bit of time to sit in the cafe next to the metal detector pass through and say our goodbyes.
We watched several dozen people go through the whole "jacket, shoes, belt into the tub" deal and saw a few people patted down and wanded.
Then something happened that made me incredibly mad.
On the other side of the glass retaining wall where all the TSA magic happens, there was an elderly woman in a wheelchair being pushed past the metal detector. Two TSA thugs (one on either side of her) hoisted her out of the chair and one was standing behind the chair. That poor old woman was so frail and hunched over, she was obviously in a bit of pain and had an absolutely mortified look on her face. While the two thugs dangled her, the third awkwardly was shrugging her coat off of her and they all three looked like they were losing their grip enough that she might hit the floor any moment.
Once they got her coat off, they continued to hold her as upright as she could be, but clearly her spine was too hunched and crooked to be anywhere near "upright". TSA thug #3 then proceeded to FRISK her! I don't mean the same type of pat down that other people setting off the walk through detector got...I mean they meant business of the body crevice kind.
Once they sufficiently felt up her hiney, they plopped her into the chair that no one remembered to lock the wheels on... then they struggled to scoot her up in a better position.
For her comfort? No...they had yet to yank her shoes off and frisk her from her thighs down.
Thank God she wasn't the mad bomber that she clearly looked like! After all, she probably even had the nerve to knit an Afghan for some loved one at Christmas!!
Feel safer yet?

Oh no you don't!!

Apparently, on March 10th there was a report of a mass murder in Samson, Alabama. Guess who showed up to take matters to task?
Soldiers from Fort Rucker, Alabama and a provost marshal!
HELLO!! That's illegal!! TOTALLY against our Constitution unless given a directive by the president during insurrection. That was not the case in this instance.
Not to mention, no one seems to know who ordered this!
The Samson Police Department didn't ask them. The county police didn't ask them. The governor didn't ask them. Obama didn't ask them (as required by law!).
Now what?
Coming to a town near YOU??

Who throws a shoe? Honestly!

By now the whole world knows a size 10 was hurled alongside an insult at President Bush.
Everybody's thinking the same thing!!

Convicting the juice

Well, 13 years to the day after his acquittal for double homicide, O.J. Simpson has been convicted of kidnapping, armed robbery, and almost a dozen other charges. People are saying that he didn’t get a fair trial because the jury was all white…well 11 white, 1 hispanic… but my opinion is that he got exactly what he wanted – a jury of his peers. After all, he didn’t want much to do with his own race of people. He moved to predominantly white (and rich) Brentwood, and married a pretty blonde white girl.
Congratulations, O.J.! You may have gotten away with a double murder in a criminal trial, but doing time is doing time and you deserve the very best!

Hunt Status: FAILED!!

Yesterday morning from another room I heard “Whoa!!” followed by a quick succession of “What the?”, “Argh!” & “Dang!”
I called out, “What is it?!”
I heard back “Never mind!”
At this point my excellent deductive reasoning capabilities kick in and I know it’s something sinister…that only means one thing in this house. Spider.
Now I want to know “when, what, where, how big?” followed by the fact that its little arachnid existence has been summarily brought to demise.
“How big was it?”
“Big enough.”
“Where was it?”
“Running under the bathroom closet door.”
“But dead now, right?”
*long silent pause*
“Um…*DEAD* now, right????”
*deafening silence*
“Hey, did you kill that thing or what!?”

So here’s the deal. My mighty spider hunter consented to haul all the crap out of the closet floor area and kill that thing before it finds a hunky virile boyfriend, stalks me, finds me, bites me from my toes up to my neck, crawls into my ear, nests, does a spidey booty call and gets knocked up and lays eggs in there.
(Don’t hassle me…it can happen! I’ve seen it in a movie! I’m almost sure of it).
I go off to the salt mine leaving my hunk of manly protector to find the offender and dispense some immediate justice.
Late afternoon on my drive to pick up MiniMe, I call his cell as I always do to catch up on info of the day and say I’m on my way.
“By the way, did you kill that spider?”
“What? From this morning?”
“Duh, yes!”
“You mean you were serious about pulling all that crap out of there and trying to find it?”
“You mean you weren’t?”
“No. I didn’t do it. I didn’t know you really wanted me to.”
*crickets*
All this means to me is that it has had HOURS to find a really good hiding place with an excellent vantage point for a sudden ambush.
Trying to redeem himself, my mighty hunter disassembles the closet eight hours later and finds….
Nothing.
Big surprise there.
You know what this means, right…? Somewhere in my home, and possibly near where I sleep…
*shudder*
Yeah, there won't be a picture in this blog entry!
