'Tis the season
Most people mark the onset of Fall by noting the seasonal change in trees, or which way the geese are flying... maybe the chill in the air, or certain smells and sounds associated with harvesting the surrounding fields.
In my area, the biggest marker for Fall is classic cars.
It's time for the annual ACD (Auburn Cord Duesenberg) festival and that means you can (and will) see those great old cars in just about every parking lot.
The bank, hotels, restaurants...everywhere.
It's kind of neat and never really gets boring to see them. Some come early and stay for the month of September. Some people have their cars shipped over from Europe and it's wild to see them driving behind a steering wheel on the "wrong" side.
The spousal unit and the Mini unit have volunteered to work one of the concession stands for her high school band.
Here are a couple quick shots from my phone this afternoon:

Best Fall EVER
I took a little road trip to another town and found my new favorite store. I bought twice as much ammo for half the price that I did yesterday...awesome.
Anyhow, this fall has lasted longer and is prettier than any I remember since I moved back to Indiana over 20 years ago.
I'm not a great photographer by any stretch of imagination, so forgive the out of focus crookity frames.
Just enjoy the road trip!:D

I love the lines in the fields after harvest. Something about it solidifies the end of the season and gives a big nod to winter on the way.

Usually, there are always ducks or geese in these little wetlands. They've mostly all gone south now.

I just want to toss out a blanket and have a picnic here:

Is that a Christmas tree in the window already? Holy moly!!
OK, I’ll leave it to you to decide how I took all the pictures...and why they're all crooked and blurry...

Candyween Friday.
My kid had a blast at a Halloween party. Hayrides, flashlight tag, costume contests, smores at a bonfire and the whole shebang.
She's pretty creative and does her own thing in her own time. She rarely follows a trend, but instead likes to set them.
In this year's bounty of Batmen and Jokers and zillions of zombies, What did my kid choose?
In the span of an hour or so she turned herself from a regular kid

Into Groucho Marx, complete with trademark cigar and one liners.
She's awesome.

Finally on the way again
I took a little drive today…not very far, just under an hour and a half. On the way to where I was going, I really enjoyed the scenery. Manicured farmland and signs of the coming fall stretched miles in every direction. My favorite time of the year! When I got home I realized that it was happening all around me and somehow I’d missed it until I saw it in from a fresh perspective in a different setting. I decided to grab my camera and go for a little walk.
Join me! :-D
It was a little cloudy, but otherwise a perfect day to be outdoors for a while. I headed towards that cornfield at the end of the street.

From the corner, you could see the neighbor’s silo across the top of the corn that’s tasseled.

The corn is so tall, I can’t reach the tassels even when I stand on my toes.

I don’t know why I love the way it looks right now, but I do. How can anyone not love tassels?

Along the way there were all sorts of wild flowers (which SOME people call weeds). I love the way they look and smell even though they make me sneeze like crazy.

The Queen Anne’s lace covers both sides of the road.
Most people don’t know that it’s wild carrots.

Here’s a wild grape vine growing on a barbed wire fence.

They usually do much better, but the critters have been after them pretty fiercely this year. Especially Japanese beetles.

I was reaching for a sprig of wild lavender and stirred up this little guy, so I left it be.

Just beyond that was more corn field. Don’t you just want to step in and lose yourself?

If you do, (and I’m not saying I did!) you’ll find a tree anchoring the corner of the field…

With more wildflowers around it.

I love the end of summer in Indiana...fall is right around the corner. Can you feel it?

Finally!
It's been the weirdest weather for this late in the year ever! But it's finally chilling down and becoming the season I love best. Flannel over a Henley... maybe a jean jacket... a fire in the pit and candles around the deck with a brisk chill in the air. I love autumn. The trees are changing and the leaves are falling. They whisk up around you like little tornados and crunch when you step on them. When it's *just* chilly enough, you can see your breath suspended in the air in front of you. I just love that.
The fall bloomers are getting pretty:

And the sky...
What can I say about a chilly fall sunset?
Nothing.
It speaks for itself:

The pieces that compose my neighborhood (houses, driveways, street) all immerse themselves in pink in acquiescence to the mood of the sky, as does the field just beyond:

And what of that field?
Today, is the day it gives back:
The way of fall is "all things change"...as do I. Time for the ritual haircut for Locks of Love. Details to follow soon.
