Relevant Forgiveness?

Remember not to long ago when Clinton supported a Congressional proposal to apologize, on behalf of the nation and the U.S. government, to "African-Americans whose ancestors suffered as slaves”?
You can refresh your memory at the Ayn Rand Institute.
Seems as though some may be jumping back on that Apology Bandwagon as more people apologize for things that they had absolutely nothing to do with:
First, some people in Papua New Guinea sent word to Fiji that they apologize for their ancestors who ate four Fijian missionaries 132 years ago.
Next, the Danish culture minister apologized to some people in Ireland for Viking raids more than 1,200 years ago.
Wonder if my great-great-great grandchildren will someday feel the senseless (and in my opinion needless)urge to apologize to the handicapped members of society for the thoughtless way that I blatantly strolled into a wheelchair accessible bathroom (where there were no physically challenged people evident), rather than pee my pants.

I think Billy Joel said it well with the line....”Your mistakes are the only things you can truly call your own”. Each person must learn to accept responsibility for what is theirs and when necessary be ready to bare the consequences of their guilt. I am not unsympathetic to the racial, domestic and/or civil problems of the past regardless what land they occurred upon. However, I don't believe that I am responsible for the sins of my fore fathers or ancestors.
