When discussing my desire to eventually try my hand at reloading, a net friend approached me with a pay-it-forward deal.
He had in his possession an RCBS single stage reloading press that was gifted to him.
He had long since moved on to bigger and better units and had it to spare.
He sent it to me all the way from Minnesota, free of charge (including no shipping)on the condition that when I moved on to bigger and better units, I was to do the same...and pass it on to the next person in the same fashion.
(I love that pay-it-forward stuff!)
I was so excited when it showed up!
Then I realized it had been shipped with a powder measure
And all the funnels and tools (like primer pocket cleaners and a de-burring tool)
I didn't know what other things I'd need besides a good scale and dies (which I've yet to procure) and a bullet puller hammer.
I took the press down to Jay's so he could show me the ropes and even though his press was a much larger progressive press, we used it in single stage mode for the purpose of teaching me the functions.
Turns out, his friend John has the exact same RCBS press set up in his garage, so we went over there so I could get a feel for what this one should do and how I should set things up.
Here is my very first reloaded cartridge, displayed on a shelf in my gun cabinet...I'll never ever shoot it. But I sure shot some of the others I made!

Nice Annie.
I'm a firm believer in pay it forward.
I've done so in the past (with no acknowledgement at times), but it doesn't really matter.
It's karma at work.
Kinda like praying for someone else. Nothing in it for you, but the benefits can't be disputed.
Neat. You have a friend in Minn.
So, how did they shoot? Did they go bang? Did the bullets leave the barrel? Did they reach the target? Did they go all the way through the paper plates?
Setve
Shotgun I have done but reloading real bullets is something I always wanted to did.
WAY TO GO, ANNIE!!
Setve (are you sure that's not a typo for "Steve"?),
They all went "bang" but one had a bad case that split after pulling the trigger (they were all VERY inspected, so it happened right then, not before)...
It jammed my Kimber up and I couldn't drop the mag or anything. Good thing Jay was there because he muscled the slide back and then the bad round could extract.
I think I know what a "panic attack" is now. My Kimber's never even had a hiccup before.
I guess that's a possibility even with factory...so I'll be super careful!
As for the rest...They all reached the target and all went through! And I say "yippee!" to that. :)
Gerry...Do it! Do it! :)
ETA, That means a bunch. :D
Hey, I'm proud of you too. (I'd just as soon have people do stuff for me, and pay for that convenience.)
I bet the jamming was disconcerting. I don't know if you even know about this, but it's probably worth perusing, seeing what you can learn (you probably have already):

RimfireCentral, huh?
I'll check it out. Probably won't post much...as I usually don't have much to say.
Not just RimfireCentral, that specific link! Did you even click on it? Jeeez!
:)
I see I forgot to pack the dial caliper so you can measure oal... I *knew* something was missing!
You're on your way ... keep the fires burning.
Yep...I clickied the RFC link and it took me to the place I'd just left. ;) But thanks.
