Back to the homemade shirt.
A couple of interesting things to note;
She wished the words had come out not so slanty, but she didn't realize how "downhill" they ran until she actually put it on. Undaunted, she trudged ahead with her plans...finding out that some people don't really know jack about the things they support.

Several thought the shirt was endorsing Obama and a few others had no idea what the stimulus package was...only that it was "something good to help people get money."
Hmmm...
So my kid explains in the most simplistic short cut way she could find and tossed in a few enlightening facts for good measure. Like, how their generation is the one that will have to pay it off, and likely their kids and grandkids, too. This was met with a few blank stares and a few raised eyebrows as well. Those surprised faces mean one thing; there's still some hope for the future, people. Maybe some of the next generation will turn things around and instigate change. That's what I'm talkin' about, people. Hope & Change.
As far as the back of the shirt, don't even get me started on the whole "nobody's ever heard of the "Gold Standard" business.

Here are some buzz words that I think never show up in American high schools in any government or economics class:
"Gold Standard"
"Federal Reserve"
"Nixon"
"Bretton Woods Agreement"
"Fiat"
"Hyper inflation"
How can they expect kids to learn what brought us to this state? I realize there's no way to stop the snowball from rolling down the mountain and picking up speed while growing, but at the very least if you teach them how dangerous and destructive it can be when it destroys whatever is in its path at the bottom, you give them a tool to understand how to keep another from starting.
I've read comments all over the net about how screwed we are and how bad it's getting. I've got news for you; you won't see the worst. Your kids will, and so will your grandchildren.
Another side note about the shirt's message; You have to educate your own kids about issues. Don't leave it up to an entity funded by the government. That's like asking Chrysler, Ford, and GM to educate kids about what a "bail out" is. Conflict of interest much?

I love the shirt, when will they go on sale?
I am very glad to see all went well for her. And yes, nobody knows about anything other than veeeeeeeery basic economics. Since No Child Left Behind parsels out money based on test results in math, science, and reading/writing, many states have literally abandoned any sort of mandatory civics classes. Makes for an educated electorate. Ugh.
I was in a large group of teachers yesterday and someone asked if Obama said anything about No Child Left Behind. We racked our brains and couldn't think of anything specific he has actually said about education, good or bad.
So it was at that point we noticed we were getting some dirty looks from other teachers. They were upset that they thought we were criticizing the president. We actually weren't, we just came to the conclusion that he wouldn't do much more for education that Bush did. I guess we are entering an age of self censorship in order to avoid conflict.....oh joys.
An interesting "slant" from an informed young activist .
The Stimulus is "slanted" to the left.
Seems to me the slanted word have a meaning in themselves...
Way to Go,MM!!
LL: I had a similar thought: that the slant represented our long, not-so-slow decline.
no matter how you look at it ... it rolls downhill and sooner or later it gets stepped in. Economic or Governmental "muck" should be on the periodic table as they are elements to be avoided
Excellent! My wife buys "peace sign" shirts for my daughter to wear so I got her a few "Peace Through Superior Firepower" shirts to wear to school too! My Wife still hasn't said anything so I think I'm in the clear. Kids are the best thing in the world ever and....they make great billboards!
OK, I'm not going to get into why I think the stimulas package was needed.
Or, why we can't go back to the Gold Standard.
I'm just here to tell you of my problem with my PM Inbox filling up with questions from people that think I know everything. (Actually, I just know how to Search better. Like you, I don't like not knowing stuff.)
This site hasn't been updated lately. So, if you're just simply on vacation, would it kill you to tell people?
If you're not with us anymore, at least contact Melinda, so she can tell us.
Boy, it's hard to post here. I can't find the little wheelchair (for Word Verification) on my keyboard.
Hey JG ~ we love ya and want you back. It is really dull without you. Guys are jerks, but some of us love ya and miss ya.

I engaged my youngest daughter in a discussion about this very subject. Mini-Jet and the shirt that is.
I was expecting her to side with the Liberal left that run the shcools...But she didn't!
She is one of those quite thinkers, she dwells on something long before you know she is.
Any-who, she told me that she was confused about why so many people are so willing to put the future generations so far in debt.
She got a puzzled look on her face and said "we will be paying for this abortion for the next ten generations, all the old people that voted for this asshole (her words)and his policies will be long dead. But their mistakes will still be alive."
This gave me hope that some of the younger people are aware of the situation.
She will be 18 in 2012, she said she will be voting for ANYONE by "The One" and his ilk.
Mini will be a voter in 2012, as well. Only problem is; a lot of her brainwashed classmates will be, too.
You know...the ones that didn't know what the stimulus package was, other than a way for some people to get money (not realizing that the money has to come from SOMEwhere).
Let's just hope four years of eye-opening events turns their brains "ON".
I'm so tired of this notion that gold or silver is any more useful than fiat... granted, unbacked currency is worthless. But the metals formerly used to back it up, silver and then solely gold, if push came to shove, are just as worthless as paper.
You can't cast gold into bullets.
You can't eat gold.
You can't mold gold into trauma plates.
Bartering is about the only viable "currency" in the world...and we still use it today; money's just an intermediary for what we really want and need. Everyone busts their hump, earns paper which is valueless and losing value by the second to go to the store, probably Wal-Mart (which I am fine with), to buy goods. We've just introduced the middle man. But even if we had silver and gold and kept to the amounts in-Treasury (and I believe it was as early as 1974 or 1975 that some news program, Sixty Minutes or the like, revealed that Fort Knox is empty. M.T.), inflation would still exist due to the inability to readily exchange any appreciable quantity of gold or silver. Hell, enough pure gold to do business with on a day out is far too valuable to take out with you to go shopping. I don't know if one-half ounce is a good trade for an AR-15 in .308, or if it's too little, or too much... and I doubt anyone else would know. And thus you have de-valuation/over-valuation occurring...and one can be just as bad as the other, as the housing bubble has demonstrated.
No, when it comes right down to it, despite the fact that I love old coins for their numismatic value, their intrinsic value is only what you can get for them... and I wouldn't trade a single thing I own for a bit of a metal I couldn't cast into rounds or use for food.
Just my two cents.

You make a good point about bartering. Too bad the government is seeking ways to tax private barter to death, too.
