Microstamping is a type of ballistic identification. Microscopic characters will be etched on to the inside working parts of semiautomatic pistols. The characters will identify the make, model, and the serial number of the pistol. As the gun is fired, the markings imprint on each cartridge case. As of 2010, all hand guns sold in California must, by law, conform. Unfortunately, the trend has been that the rest of the country frequently follows California’s lead in many things. I hope this is not one of them. There are so many reasons that make this a bad idea.
Just like other firearm safety technology, this technology will add to the cost of a firearm.
And what of reloading? What about the people buying and selling recycled brass casings or reloaded ammo? Two microstamps on one casing? Three? Four?
What if your firing pin breaks? No more swapping out parts at the range to keep shooting. How much of a hassle will acquiring a new firing pin become?
Since revolvers don't drop the spent casings. I bet we’ll see an upward trend in revolver sales. Buy stock in a wheel gun manufacturer!
Microstamping could only work if every gun used in a crime was recorded from manufacturer to current owner and we allowed the police unlimited powers in looking through our personal records. That screams “Police State” and is ultimately everything the gun community is against.
Politicians could make much better use of their time in their fight against crime by enforcing *current* laws.
Meanwhile, I’m not going to be leaving any of *my* brass at the range…how ‘bout you??

Maybe it is time for California to just float off into the sunset and they can be there own separate country. Hey, do you think Mexico still wants it?
Mexico doesn't care. It's empty. They're all in Ligonier.
Oh Hell yeah, I forgot!
