Observation

It all started with that trip to Cabela’s. We took a little time to drive over to Ann Arbor and had dinner and then walked the town. I started noticing a trend there and pointed it out to JL. Soon we were playing a sort of game likened to “I spy”. Remember that game as a kid? One player would say for instance, “I spy the color green”. Then the other players would take turns trying to spot the green object targeted.
In our little game while walking all around, I began to notice that all the girls/women ped-xing all over the town with either a man on their arm, or meeting up with a man in a short time, all had one thing in common. On the contrary, all the women that seemed to be alone and appearing to stay that way had something else in common.
Shoes.
Those walking everywhere with a man on their arm or holding hands (etc.) all were wearing comfortable shoes. Every single one.
Those that never seemed to be with a man, and never appeared to meet up with one, all had the most uncomfortable shoes I think I’ve ever seen. Not only excessively high heels, but the really narrow spiked ones in a LOT of instances. I think for a city where most of the population walks, anything over 2 inches high would be just about murder after 4-6 blocks or so. This would explain a lot of the grimaced faces and odd strides.
It got to the point where we’d see a girl exiting a store front or restaurant and peg her with “man” or “no man” and I think we actually got it wrong twice.
I’d actually pretty much forgotten about it until we were shopping today and saw two girls walking together. One with incredibly uncomfortable looking shoes and one with low heeled strappy sandals. Jokingly, JL reminded me of the Ann Arbor game and sure enough, a guy strolled up and took the hand of “comfortable-shoe-girl” while “uncomfortable-shoe-girl” was an obvious 3rd wheel.
Just a little observation.
By the way…Which shoes did I wear while traipsing around block after block for hours on end?
My "I got a man" shoes. HA!
