Thank goodness for small town shops.
I called up my gun guy today and told him about all the information and opinions I was getting from the net and people who know I’m looking for a bolt action.
Now, I should have prefaced that by saying that before I called him, I called a big time store that quoted me a pretty decent deal. About $150 less than what the net said they were doing.
What I’m really looking to do is to go in and physically hold those rifles and just see what feels good and which is the most appealing to me visually, as I’ve already narrowed my options to two choices.
First choice:
The CZ 452 Lux

Second choice:
The CZ 452 FS (Mannlicher version)

Enter small town gun guy.
Yeah, sure the big time stores can order in all sorts of stuff for you to “look at”, but my gun guy said (and this is where that little store will ALWAYS win my business), “Annie, I’ll tell you what; I actually own the two you’re looking at. You tell me when you want to get to the store, and I’ll give you some targets and a brick of ammo and I’ll bring my personal guns to the store and you can take them over to the gallery and shoot as long as it takes you to decide what you like best with and without the scope weight. Whichever one you decide on, I’ll make sure you’re happy with the price out the door before we ever order it in. And if you decide you don’t want either one, we’ll just keep looking and call it a fun day shootin’.”
God, I love SmallTown, USA.

"Enter small town gun guy." Now, how cool is that! That is certainly the kind of treatment that keeps people coming back. Good on him, and good luck to you in making the choice. Won't be easy to decide but either one will be a winner... after all, it's a CZ!
Geez, even if he was a bit higher than the big box I would patronize him for that kind of service. Not much of that to be had around here.
Yeah, that's why every purchase (with the exception of one) has been from that little store. He knows I'm not just a "browser" hanging around to flap my jaws. Usually, it's a high ticket purchase and I'm a repeat customer. The last time I did business there he suggested that I go ahead and write a personal check because the credit card would have been a fee for them; so there I stood writing it out underneath a huge red warning sign that says "POSITIVELY NO PERSONAL CHECKS!!"
JL just looked at me and said, "Hey! How do *you* rate!?"
Because they know I'll be back!
