Don Hume Mag Holder

Picked a used one up off the net, and didn't care for saddle brown (as usual)...

Grabbed my tools of destruction and proceeded to change it to black.
(In my opinion, a glimpse of saddle brown screams "holster/gun" where people see black and think nothing more than "cell phone/PDA/wallet/etc.)

When it arrived:

Here's what  I used;

Took off the waxy topcoat and several layers of brown dye;
Dyed it with the Kiwi black leather dye and polished it with black polish;

I remember the holster you did this way. Very artsy photography, too!

Thanks. Just used a white background (A cut up T-shirt) and filtered light...sort of like a light box, but minus the box! lol

Cool.

Decades ago I did the same with a brown leather inside-the-waistband holster for my S&W 39-2, 'cept I didn't polish it. I just dyed it black 'cuz I didn't want the boot polish to come off on my clothes. It still looks great.

Yours looks good too.

Way to improvise, girlie!

Thanks, Zoomie. So far I've done two holsters, one dual mag holder, and this. It hasn't rubbed off on anything yet, and some of them have been being used for years now. I also touch up my gun belt this way (minus the polish).

What did you use to strip the brown off?

I used Acetone (generic nail polish remover).
If you're trying it...good luck! You'll like your results! :)
