Mistaken Identity

Just so happens, I'm not the only one of my shootin' peeps who happens to own MidwayUSA's "Shooter Competition Bag".
It looks like this:

I decided I was gonna solve the potential problem of "mix ups", at least from my end.
None of the guys will get confused and pick up MY bag now.
First pink primers...now this;

Now, I know you're probably saying "Well, maybe the bags won't get mixed up... but what about the brass bag?"
Got that covered, too.

People can laugh, man...but I'll tell you what; ALL the pink primer brass got tossed in the flower bag. ;)
As for the rest of the brass...they can duke it out. :D

"As for the rest of the brass...they can duke it out."

and the rest of the story is? I saw no pictures of targets (neither full on 'custom special' nor those plain vanilla pre-printed boring ones) or read of any range chaos, competition or serious training sessions - do tell! and exactly how *much* other brass were they duking it out for?

There were only a few pics taken...mostly of a new-shooter's targets. One of me shooting a Glock (so there's proof I actually did it. :P)
As for the rest, all sorts of targets were used; My very exclusive designer ones, store bought ones, steel spinners, resets, clays...
It wasn't training, just a fun shoot.
There were lots of toys to be shared around...I shot things I never had before (a Super Blackhawk 44mag, Blackhawk 45LC, Glocks in a variety of caliber flavors from 9mm, 40 S&W, .357 sig, on.)
As for brass...we had multiple tarps overlapping and the area covered was probably the size of an above ground pool diameter, and it was pretty well littered with empties of all sizes.

she shot a glock?! Pretty sure since it was "just proof" of shooting there was no pull to the dark side. Did the utilitarian beauty of the plastic fantastic even scratch the surface of the 1911 love? I realize the trigger is quite different and even though I'm entrenched w/1911...the trigger is what impressed me?! The g17 and 19 I shot - I shot well.
Anyway you're saying it was like a pic-a-nik basket of tasty unsampled morsels that tantalyzed the trigger and kaPow taste buds?

She shot more than one. And has kept the same opinion of them, for the most part. I will say that the sights were fairly easy to transition to, but the rest- bleh. Too blocky (couldn't get my hand all the way around the grip), the plastic checkering felt kinda gross (some were super sharp), and the triggers were horrendous. Too long of pull, too mushy, too much squish instead of a crisp clean break. More recoil for each caliber than in its same-sized-steel counterpart frame (1911). And yes, BooBoo...it was a great goody filled pic-a-nik basket!!
One good thing, though...
After shooting my 1911s (with specific attention to the Kimber), the Glock fan's wife is talking about getting one for herself because of all the stuff to shoot, she liked it best. (She has a G19)

If I'm BooBoo Baybeee does that make you Yogi Boom? ;p

hmmm I didn't find the recoil objectionable - considering I was comparing to 124gr +p+ out of the Kahr P9 maybe I just didn't notice.(yeah I know)
Both g17/19 had the 3.5# connector and some action polishing done to them so they were better than stock glock but not comparable to a good 1911 action. I could find them very usable for what they are intended for.
The grip is indeed fat but was a good fit in my hand. The grip angle made sights line up quickly. Closing my eyes, raising the gun up to shoot and then opening eyes the sights were where they needed to be.
Not going to say I'm a convert, but will admit that I find them very usable and if a good *used* 17/19 would be available I would consider one. The g26 sized frame just doesn't have enough grip length for my tastes and I do find that a no go.
...but I have 1911 holsters/bullets/cases/primers/powder/dies/parts/working knowledge of and nearly 25 years of shooters acclimation to a 1911. Economics and being accustomed to it play a big part in a decision on "what's next". Don't think I'll be buying new again. What are the used prices on the up and coming off brand '11's?
I guess you've officially become an "enabler" ;)

Not a lot of used "new 1911s" are turning up yet. Of the ones I've seen back and forth, so far they've all been Rock Island Armory's.
Maybe with good reason...don't know yet. I really liked mine at first, but I am becoming disenchanted.
First the barrel needed re-reamed...however they sent me a new one instead. But they sent me a 3" barrel for my 4" frame. Then when I told them about the mistake (after *I* paid shipping), they wanted me to pay to ship it back, PLUS pay to ship the correct one, even though it was THEIR mistake.
Got that solved and they paid to ship it, and now recently this.

hmmmm... slide loose on the frame?bent recoil spring or guide
is this a bushing style gun? if so the bushing may be bent or the barrel they sent to replace the original and the incorrect 3" replacement may be externally out of spec or otherwise not fitted correctly. Without seeing the gun in person...I *am* giving general "look at it" recs. The link pin, slide stop and lug could also be suspect.

another q?!
70 series or 80 style? if an 80, it could be either of the lift levers that actuate the lock plunger. I going to guess the upper lift lever.
iirc the RIA's are 70 style but can't confirm.

It's a reversed tapered barrel (no bushing). The link and alignment all seem fine to the untrained eye, so I dunno what gives.
I contacted the company and talked to the smith...he said send it back, it's under warranty, so that's what I'm doing.
P.S. "70 series"...

MtS said...

will be interested to hear what actually is found to be the problem. I've read that RIA cs is pretty good with making things right and as long as it's warranty work let em do it.
btw snazzy looking range bag! (forgot my manners and what drew me in to comment :) )
