She told me that when I was really little, he bought it from my dad.
She talked with all her kids and they all decided together that it should go to me.
It may not be worth fifty bucks, but I wouldn't trade it for fifty grand.
I don't know anything about it yet...but I'm going to find out.
Here are a few pics:

You got a classic- those that own em like em. Seems there are a few quirks...as anything mechanical does. Its a shooter with history.
Nice, that will be fun. Can't wait to read about your research.
Very nice photos. Good background. The color compliments the color of the wood and adds an interesting texture.
Most of my guns are handed down from the family, they're the best kind.
I'm finding out some really cool things!
Apparently, even though it says "Springfield", it's not really associated with what we know as "Springfield Armory"... and it also shoots shorts in single shot as well as LR in semi-auto. How cool is THAT?
Got lots more looking to do, but when I'm all done, I'll blog it up.
Also,
there's a "J.W." scratched in the stock on one side...the running joke is that it must have been John Wayne's gun. Nobody ever fixed it, and I'm sure not gonna either...
I think its official name now is "The Duke". :D Heh.
You should run a few shorts through that thing for kicks. Those things kick less than some pellet guns that I now own.
Yep! I plan on looking for a box actually marked "High Speed" too...I hear they are a collectible forerunner to "High Velocity", and it would sure be nice to display some with it at least.
