This is how we do it AnnieStyle.
We pack up a range bag and head to the Conservation club.
MiniMe had a blast. Literally.
Here she is taking her stance:

She didn't say so, but I think she likes the gun smoke.
I know I do.

We had a target set up and she took the left and I took the right.

She shot the Smith & Wesson 22A for a while and then switched to my 1911 in .45.
After a couple of mags she decided to go back to the .22 for a couple hours.
Then she switched to her Savage MKII for the rest of the time there.
First she stood:

Then she sat:

A girl's work is never done. Not if there are mags left to load.

Here are a couple short vids.
Enjoy, plinkers!

This kicks so much ass I don't know how to put it in words. One nit - I don't like the way she is pointing that gun at her foot at the end of the first video. I assume mom has already talked to her about that.
I actually missed that.
:-0
The Mini is as awesome as the Mother.
You've done a fine job!
PS: Muzzle appears to be pointing about a foot in front of her feet.
True enough Articus, but too close for comfort.
Muzzle control
I agree with dan from madisen. That's just a shot foot waiting to happen. Too close for comfort is too close at all. Better teach her the right way to do things than let her go on to hurt someone.
WTF?
Holy crapolie!
FYI, that slide locks back when the mag is empty...locking the action open on an empty pistol.
She never lowers it until she shoots it empty. Furthermore, she's smart enough and trained enough that she knows to take her finger out of the damn trigger guard and lay it along the frame when she doesn't have her sights on a target she's intending to shoot.
How many pics/vids are on the net showing that safe handling technique? Not many.
My kid is a conscientious safe shooter and I would put her safety skills up against anyone any day.
in the 'netverse everyone is an expert (at times myself included). The AF79 household has done well. No worries.
Ok peoples, I realize you're concerned for my safety, but I knew what I was doing. Did you guys NOT notice that I totally dropped my stance after firing? There were NO MORE BULLETS. You have to drop the gun from the aiming position at SOME point, I mean, I can't just stand there forever when the mag's empty and the slide's back. That's pointless. My mom obviously stopped recording the video before I turned to go reload the mag. Seriously, she's smarter than that; if I was dumb enough to aim a loaded gun at my foot I shouldn't be, and wouldn't be, shooting in the first place - and she wouldn't let me.
A young lady and her gun...
Gorram, there is true harmony in the verse.
She could belly up to the bench aside me any ole day. (as long as she don't make me long too bad)
I have watch the video at least 10 times. She never covers her foot with the muzzle. Remember we are looking at 2 dimensions and she is shooting in 3 dimensions.
Still no matter if the slide is back and the mag is "empty" it is important to maintain muzzle control just as if the pistol was fully loaded.
You did great MiniMe. Brings back many fine memories for me.
Annie and Mini are two of the safer shooters around. Emulate these two rather than criticize.

After watching the videos several times each I would feel quite safe while in proximity to MiniMe while she fired and handled a weapon. I trust Annie (and perhaps others)has instilled the appropriate safety mindset and skills.
At the end of the pistol video it appears to me that MiniMe assumed the acceptable 6 o'clock muzzle down position, between the feet and slightly forward.
I also trust that Annie has made sure that proper trigger control/safety habits are exercised

Annie: Looks like a great time. I assume the paper plates did not survive.
Next time try bringing a handful of golf balls for the more diminutive you to shoot up with that rifle. There's not many things more fun than shooting at golf balls.
That is a great surviving school activity and a good family tradition. Looks like mini jet is a taking after her mother. She doesn't have a list does she? Any who. Great post and great vids. Nicely done. Oh and Mini ~ way to keep those know it all guys in line. Ya done good.
Don, As a matter of fact we always have golf balls in the range bag, and one definitely took a beating. :)
Chad, She's probably got some kind of list... and I'm probably on it. :O
Great kid, you're lucky. I have a son who is 25 and he's been shooting and hunting with me for years but he never picked up a gun jones. I think he only does it for me.
Looks like the two of you had a good time and look at the number of responses that you got.

Gotta be the most popular entry of my blog's history. Well, either that or the one with my sock drawer.
Holy cow, I go for a nice long bike ride, come back and it is a food fight in here. I was just making a point, not criticizing anyone for anything.
"Did you guys NOT notice that I totally dropped my stance after firing? There were NO MORE BULLETS."
No, I did not notice that. The video consists of three shots, and it is impossible for me to tell that the slide is locked back.
I don't think for a second that Annie has not taught her daughter well. All I saw was what appeared to be a barrel pointing close to a foot at the end of the video and thought I would mention it.
Sweat it not, padawan.
Ok, She is doing fine with the handgun...
That MiniJet ..>> cutie with a 45...LOL..I like the shooting with the savage too. BUT WHERE IS MOM?...I know we have mom pics...
Well done MiniJet and good job standing up fer yourself..++
"Mom" is on the *other* side of the camera.
As usual. ;)
(Unless the Mister is along...he hogs the camera! :p )
annie,
that's a fine young lady you're raising, reminds me of my daughter in a younger day, and she sticks up for herself very well.
Thanks, gunner! I think she's a keeper. :)
