Target Stuff

~
I’ve been waiting to order a couple of Jammit stands from MidwayUSA until my credit card gets credited for the return of my holster. Meanwhile I decided that I wanted to see what I could scrounge around and use as a “make do” until that happens. It had to be something high enough and sturdy enough to hold cardboard without tipping over even if it was breezy. I couldn’t pick up campaign signs because the election hasn’t happened yet. I went to Home Depot looking for some of those “yard sale” sign stands, but the sturdy ones were $18 bucks and that’s almost what the Jammit stands are…
For the time being, I picked up a couple of those spiked dealies like some people have holding reflectors at the end of their drive way, but instead of having a reflective disk in them, they had a slot to slide a sign (or cardboard) into like you see marking graduation party driveways and such.
The spousal unit reminded me that I’ve got some shepherd hook plant hangers in the shed that I didn’t use anymore…Bingo.
I picked out two of them of the same height.

The bottom stakes into the ground easily by stepping on it.

I used plain old binder clips.

And clipped the sides of some cardboard that I’ve used for target practice to each one.

I used a handy dandy stapler and attached a couple of paper plates that I sometimes use for targets. I like to save the “real targets” and “Shoot n’ sees” for MiniMe.

This worked really well when I set it up in front of the berm at the range.
Since everything comes apart, it stores and travels flat.
I’m diggin’ the Yankee ingenuity of it all.

I almost forgot that you are indeed a Yankee by birth.

Last year, my older brother (an inveterate 'tinker') Rigged up a target pulley system in some trees behind my mom's house. It uses a child's old bicycle frame, crank, and back wheel to move the target on a thin cable out to about 150 feet. He even worked out the range-per-crank and wrote it in marker on the makeshift shooting bench (scrounged lumber, cinder blocks, and pallets)
I wish I had a pic to put up (need a new camera...grr)---it works great, but looks kinda ridiculous.

LOL! That sounds awesome!
Is he a nerdy "inventor" type with everything? Or was this kind of a fluke?

Nah, you'd never guess it, meeting him. He just likes to tinker with stuff, usually something that got thrown away, but still has fun working parts like electric motors, lights, gears, or other features that he can apply to some new 'project'.
I used to tell people that he got all the German from our family, and I got all the Irish :-D

JG-Good little target stand. Hadn't thought about using something like that.

b smith- I have been trying to figure out how to do what your brother did. Thanks for the ideal sounds like a future project for me.
