Final UPDATE in the Cooper Firearms Drama:
Cooper changed its page again...
In response to the recent article highlighting Dan Cooper’s personal political donations, the board of directors, shareholders and employees of Cooper Firearms of Montana, Inc would like to issue the following statement:
The employees, shareholders and board of directors of Cooper Firearms of Montana do not share the personal political views of Dan Cooper.
Although we all believe everyone has a right to vote and donate as they see fit, it has become apparent that the fallout may affect more than just Mr. Cooper. It may also affect the employees and the shareholders of Cooper Firearms.
The board of directors has asked Mr. Cooper to resign as President of Cooper Firearms of Montana, Inc.
Daily operations will continue with the competent staff currently in place in Stevensville, MT producing the finest, most accurate rifles money can buy.
Dan Cooper has spentall of his working life producing the highest quality rifles built here in the USA. He started with nothing but the American Dream and built that into firearms company anyone would be proud of. We firmly believe Dan stands by the2nd amendment.
We wish him all of the best in his future pursuits.

I don't know but this bugs me in a couple of ways. Like Bill Ruger, the guy obviously puts other things ahead of his business and customers. Yes, Obama is far from being a friend of the firearms industry. Even the wife who is a died in the wool Democrat/Green agrees with me on this one. Maybe he was thinking like Ruger if he kisses up enough he could help have a say in the whole process. But for 3k, you don't get much access. Plus, he's not public enough (like Bill Ruger and Colt firearms)to make a real difference. Though now he could reasonably (in their eyes) be seen as a martyr for the anti-gun crowd.
Still, I do get bugged by people's outside activities affecting their jobs like that. I fully understand that his employees and investors are rightfully scared of backlash. Still, I understand why people could have rightfully boycotted and killed his business but something I can't put my hands on bugs me. I'm a pretty radical capitalist in a very staunchly Democratic/union area. I know that if I "outed" myself, it could reasonably effect my job. (Jeez, when I mentioned I was a vegetarian, you'd have thought I said I was a Nazi.) Not the the extent that Dan Cooper's ideas did, but effect me nonetheless.
All in all, no winners anywhere. His name will forever not only have lost the rightful luster it had but also have a taint on it. I feel sorry that his stupid decisions will effect his employees/investors. As for him, scr*w him.
I agree--- this is disturbing, in an alternate-reality way.
Where do these people come from? How could anyone in the firearms industry be so misled? Obama's record is so rabidly anti-gun, and anyone with any sensory input whatsoever could see it. Even the so-called 'pro-gun' group that's been shilling for him has been exposed as a fraud. (Interesting thought---is there some back-room deal that this guy's made with the Obama camp that hasn't come to light? In the words of Mr. Spock, "It would explain a great many things")
I've been to the site, and he has some really nice guns...and they're priced accordingly. Which means there isn't much chance I'd have been able to acquire his stuff anyway, short of massive, unexpected financial gain. Still, it's always upsetting when someone turns to the dark side like this. A reasoning person has to wonder what went on in his head, and what the true motives were. Just the fact that he apparently lied repeatedly about it tells you that he knew his actions would be unpopular, and probably outright harmful.
Profoundly disturbing, indeed.
Dunno. Maybe he cares about more than one issue.
I seriously doubt he just doesn't care about the second amendment.
Anonymous:
Does he care about the business he started, and ran for such a long time?
Does he care about the employees and shareholders?
I'd say there has to be a serious question about his attitude toward the Second Amendment, because there damn sure isn't ANY question about Obama's feeling on the matter. It's all right there in his record.
b smith,
I agree 100%, look at his voting record and anyone can see he is no friend of the free people of the US
