So I've been looking around and trying to figure out what I want to do about adapting this gun for home defense.
I had people all over the net sending me info about the options available for shorter barrels because I was intending on having an 18" for home and the 28" for Trap.
The more I researched and the more I thought about it, the more I realized I'd be paying about a hundred bucks less (or even less than that) for a barrel (or a barrel plus mod) than I would be for a whole 'nother gun.
I also found out that it's just really a good idea to have a Trap specific gun for Trap and a defense specific gun for defense.
Also, a fear factor was pushing me...telling me "if you don't do something now, you may not be able to later" (a lot of stuff zinging around in my head with that one, especially this election year).
So...
I just did it.
Remington.
870.
Evil and Black.

Of every BB gun...
and every airsoft...
and every hand gun...
and every rifle...
and even the wooden stock shotgun...
MiniMe has turned her nose up at anything to do with everything that shoots.
But this time...
THIS gun...she likes. And now she's interested.
Go figure.

Definitely my recommendation. 870 parts are everywhere and plentiful, and that action is reliable. Nice choice.
Thanks. I need to get a pin punch to tap out the pins and clean it before I shoot it. JL broke one this weekend on the gate that needed repaired from all the winds/storm/crap.
How is your area doing with all this rain and stuff?
It is insane around here, especially to the north and west. Many, many roads are closed all over the southern half of the state. Things are expected to crest today and tomorrow so more misery to come.
Taking apart that 870 is a snap, if it is the same action as mine. I bought a small book that shows how to take it all the way down and I did that after I bought it (got mine used).
Yeah, some of the manual's instructions were a little unclear, but I found this gem (God Bless the Internet):

Yep, that video is pretty much my gun. I assume it is the same for your evil black model, but I dont know if they have changed anything - mine was made in the early eighties. I note that they didn't take the bolt apart in the video, something you should probably do with the new gun just to make sure there isn't any crud in there. It takes two seconds.
I CAN HAZ EVL BLACK SHOTGUN? (grinz)
I wonder why 'mini' is interested in this gun? Budding interest in domiciliary defense? Or just 'cause it looks cool?
In any case, welcome, New Convert!! Have fun and be safe!!
I think it's mostly the "cool factor" because of movies...but I might be wrong. At any rate, I took it apart today to clean and oil it...what a pain in the butt!! Be looking for a blog about that soon!
Huh? Must be different than my 870 because that thing is a snap, just like the video.
Dan, if yours is like the one in the video, it probably is a snap. Mine has the extended mag tube and the instructions aren't exactly clear about it. I found what I needed on the net in the archives at TheHighRoad. It's all good. :D
