Yep. Apparently, there was a study on the development of boys and it was “discovered” that playing with toy guns allows a healthy outlet for safe risk-taking and fantasy play, which makes learning more appealing and enhances their development. Specifically, with communication skills. They are better able to develop storylines in play which affords them better abilities in drawing, reading and writing.
Another shocking “discovery” is that boys tend to choose activities with more “action”, “noise”, and “physical play” and also tend to choose “outdoors” as the setting. Imagine that.
This study was shooting for (pun intended) advancing boys’ achievements, as they often fall behind girls in academics.
Research at yet another University in London has also determined that boys should be allowed to play gun games.
It was revealed that when boys are told “play-fighting is wrong” they become dispirited and withdrawn. You can read about it here, but maybe the word they were looking for is “emasculated”. Think much?
